Need help please..I had to put my truck in 4 wheel drive "high" because the roads where bad with snow...I got home parked my truck leaving it in 4wheel drive and when I started it again, the dash said it was in 4x4 "low" when it was still in "high" and now it seems to be stuck in 4wheel low...can't even get into 2 wheel drive...any help??
Sounds like maybe an electrical problem with the ESOF module, but try this:
1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
2. Depress the brake.
3. Place the gearshift in N (Neutral) (automatic transmission) or depress
the clutch (manual transmission).
4. Move the 4WD control to the 4x4
HIGH (4WD High) or 2WD (2WD
High) position.
5. Hold the shift conditions until the
LOW RANGE indicator light shuts
off.
6. If the LOW RANGE indicator light
does not shut off within 15
seconds, drive the vehicle above 5
mph (8 km/h), then repeat steps 1
through 5 before reporting any shift concerns to your dealer.
(sorry for the weird edits...copy/paste malfunction!)
Try putting the trans shifter in neutral while pressing on the brake pedal switch the **** to 2wd or 4wd. Remember if your hubs are not locked in manually when you shut the truck off the vacuum to the hubs has to build back again before they will engage again after restarting. This may take several seconds to build enough vacuum as you can tell when you hear the heater blend door operating.
Thinking about getting some FX4 skid plates/plate to bolt underneath my truck. Would like the peice of mind having some extra protection off road. Only problem is harder washing under there. Is skid plate easy to take on and off?
I like the Rancho shocks over the stockers, mine have have 135K miles and still are acceptable, I'll replace them with Ranchos. And the FX4 does include the limited slip axle, I've never seen one without it. I think the package is a decent deal for it's content, is it an "OFF ROAD" package, well, er, no. If you want off road buy a RAPTOR.
Might hit some mud holes sometimes but I don't think I would want to get too far "Off Road" wiih my crew cab weighing in at over 8000 lbs, seems like it would promptly bury it's self the first soft spot it hits.

The FX4 package (in 2005) DID NOT include limited slip. It REQUIRED the separate purchase of a limited slip differential.

Skid plate + hardware available from ford?
Lower your truck. That way, you can just hose the dirt off and nobody will see. Also, it won't tip over as much.
