Hi guys im just wondering how many miles you guys have had on your trucks. i know these babys are workhorses and run forever, but i seen somewhere around here i think that one guy said he had over 800xxx miles, seems a little high. Also, what can i expect for the life of a c6 tranny, i heard thet are pretty good and reliable, but do they have any problems or weaknesses? thanks a lot guys!
i dont see why 800k cant happen as long as its been well taken care of and not flogged. ive seen c6 with 300k on them, also seen em bashed at 150 so again, it depends on how you drive, haul, cool it. big weakness is no overdrive!
Yea thats what i was thinking about the tranny, but 800xxx on one of these motors, really? i don't doubt it could but most people start to not care about mantience after so long, that would be impressive to see
There are lots of them around with 3-400K on them, several on here. I bought 2 last year with about 300K on them, both 7.3's, no idea of history on them, they ran clean at the time, so I've just started treating the antifreeze with SCA's, if they die due to cavitation, they'll get an engine swap.
It all depends on what you use the truck for, and if you are willing (or able) to wrench yourself. I think these are one of the few vehicles left around that 'backyard' mechanics can really do much with, and that's why a lot of us are here on these forums.
My previous one had 405k when i let it go. wish i never did, and i know for a fact that its still running around after 3 years. ive seen it on the road not too long ago.
Other than regular maintenance, and wear on regular parts that do, ran like it had 50k on it.
Mine has 106K and I hope it continues to go for a long, long time.
our trucks will rot out up here in New England long before our IDI's have any serious issues.
im gunna finish up where the po left off on the POR-15 and make sure my upper trans hump and way up front(rad support/frame/push plates etc.) gets done this summer, while everything is still extremely solid.who knows.maybe this old gal will go me 15 yrs instead of the 10 (9 left) i had originally planned on if i can keep her solid.
20k miles per year.id like to get her at least broken in at 200k before i have to scrap her lol.
I started doing a undercoating every summer (as of last year) and that should slow the rust down a little. I have hardly any rust on the body/cab and frame is completely rust free so I hope to go at least another 10-15 years.
During the summer it was used for 500 mile round trips hauling, weekly. Then used for about a 100 mile round trip nearly every other day during the summer. It was also used a whole lot to bring me to school.
Considering that it was used for nearly all highway driving, it may have lasted longer without the 4.10 gears. Of course it still ran before the rebuild, I think we rebuilt it because it was burning oil? It's been a long time.
