Hey everyone. I have a e99 f250sd extended cab, short bed, 4x4 and have always wondered about putting a snow plow on it. I'm pretty sure that Ford is against putting a plow on a f250 with a diesel. I know that it's been done. Have any of you done it. Did you have to do any suspension upgrades or did you just put it on. Any problems arrise from putting a plow on? Let me know your experiences.
I have had a plow on my 2003 F250 an 8 foot Western Unimount pro-plow and have had a grand old time with it. I have put over 60,000 miles on the truck since getting the plow and have had no issues related to the ball joints or tie rod end since I put new one's one when I first got the truck. I baby my truck when plowing, I'm not the guy who is doing 30 miles an hour slamming into curbs and such, but my truck plows great. I don't know where you got your information from regarding Ford discouraging a plow on an F250, I have never heard that. I know they say not to on an expedition, but you can even plow with an F150, lot's of people do.
Ditto to what Jason said. You might find some plow dealers that will shy away from it because the extended cab and crew cabs add extra weight to the already loaded front axle, but most will just take your money and not otherwise care. You will want to make sure you have the x-code front springs though. It will work with the V springs but my front end was quite a bit lower and bottomed the plow out more than I was comfortable with before I upgraded.
Yep. Plow with my truck all the time. Put x-codes up front like mentioned and good to go. Have a western mvp which is pretty heavy and it only brings the front end down about an inch when raised. You should hae no problems what so ever.
I have a 2002 F250 7.3L CC with a 7.5' Western Ultramount Plow. I was limited to the 7.5' because of the crew cab, just need 550 lbs. of ballast when it's on. I didn't have any issues but have since had two extra springs added to each front leaf pack. This really helps the ride with the plow on and its not too bad when the plow is off. It also gave me 3" of lift too!!
