I wouldn't call the 300 a bad motor. May not sound as nice as a built v8, but for a truck motor its great.
But as far as your actual question, no I don't have an answer, but I do know this has been covered. Just search for 300 to 302. I'm sure they mention whether the harness needs changed or not.
im not saying 300 in general is bad.... but the one i have is weak as ****.... lol
Low Oil Pressure, No Power what so ever.... Sacked out.
i have and i found lots of info on this forum.... the only thing im not sure is if it have to change the WHOLE WIRING HARNESS, or just the ENGINE HARNESS (4 Big Plugs that look generic)<-- the Part actually attached to engine/injectors ect.... not the wiring harness for like lights and what not....
BOth trucks are basically the same.... mines 89
Donor Engine came out of a 87-88-89 but it is in a 1990 currently. Engine has no emissions bull**** to deal with....
i will let you know and maybe if everything goes as planned, ill make a thread of all req'd stuff on this and hopefully some1 will make it a sticky for future referance....
Good luck with the swap! I would love to pull my 351w out of my93 E250 but reality I don't think I could do it for my 94 2wd F150 (lack of know how and tools). Keep us posted on progress!
well im not a 100% sure what has been done to it... im buying it off a friend who bought it from someone who put 8000 into it.... it pulls hard, have driven in it with the vehicle its in.
I know there is a cam in there, and yes i was planning on putting headers, with 2.5 out each side.... or one side havent decided.
I definitely would not call the 300 a weak engine. Its one of the best engines Ford ever made. I really think that the 300 is a much better truck engine than the 302. The 300 makes low end power which the 302 does not. So, the 302 doesn't really do as well lugging around a truck. It works fine and does great when the RPMs come up.
im not saying the 300 is a weak engine, if you read i said, the one in MY TRUCK IS WEAK...
second, if you look up a few posts, i posted a link, and i asked, is this the only peice of wiring i need to change (ENGINE HARNESS NOT WIRING HARNESS) and to me, that looks like its the only thing really, 4 plugs, plug n play, i have the same 4 plugs on my engine harness on my 300.....
i know the 300 has like 20 more torque, but then engine im putting in there is not stock, and im sure it will has about the same torque, with more horses....
Google Image Result for http://www.wiringdiagrams21.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ford-wiring-harness.png that is the link for engine harness.... with injectors ect..... this seems to be the only thing i will need to change other than the obvious.... and it is already on the engine i am getting, so its pretty much plug n play im thinking. other than engine mounts, and towers, i think i got the swap nailed down.... unless someone can think of something im missing! i have whole drivetrain of truck going into mine except the diffs.....
I have never rebuilt an engine before, i was thinking if i did the swap, i was going to rebuild the 300 in time and sell it, learn how to take apart the engine.... i am mechanically handy but have never really taken the whole engine apart, i have pulled them out and whatnot, but not much more than that. Plus i dont think i have proper tools to do it, but i wanna take it apart none the less....
