Hey all,
Does anyone have any easy ideas to hop up my 1991 Corwn Vic 302 that is going into my 50 F-3? I am guessing that most will say to swap out the heads and cam for a mild hop-up and if that's the case, what yrs are good heads to grab? I saw someone had used heads off a Mercury Mountaineer, but am wondering if the intake also needs to be swapped out. Has anyone here done any mods to their 302? I am not looking to spend thousands, just would like a little snappier performance. Thanks all...
Are you retaining EFI with this swap? And if so do you have the Crown Vic setup or something else?
BTW.. swapping heads and the cam produces a LOT more than a mild hop-up on this motor, the Explorer parts will nearly double the output of the CV motor(stock 150hp) when combined with a free flowing exhaust.

Yes I am going to retain the EFI. I purchased the one owner car for $1100 and plan on robbing everything I can from it and then selling for scrap. Only driven 7K a year and burns no oil. Has a small exhaust leak but otherwise perfect.
Heads like those off a Mountaineer/Explorer will certainly help but the major reason this version of the 5.0 is so weak is because of the stock cam.. which barely pokes the valve open. The one upside is this should be a roller motor so there are literally hundreds of cams to choose from, but you won't want to get too carried away because the stock CrownVic EFI system is the next limitation. This motor should have grey 14lb injectors on it which are only good for about 250hp so you'll have to stay within that or swap in a Mustang or truck EEC and 19lb squirters. The Comp 35-512-8 is a healthy cam upgrade that won't upset the stock computer.

Wow, thanks for the input! I'm only looking for around 250 HP since the original is about 150 HP. This will just be a nice cruiser and amateur show truck.
