Back window switch

Hey all. I got an 88 bronco and the back window switch doesnt work on the inside on the dash. But when you put the key in the back you can roll the window up and down. So basically the switch inside wont work. has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Check your fuses, I cant remember which number it is. The key switch in the tailgate is hot all the time and on a seperate fuse. The front switch is only hot when key is on and power is ran through a seperate fuse, on my '96 it is the power window switch fuse. If you have power windows and they work then you either have a wiring problem from fuse to the rear window switch or the switch itself is may be bad. Good luck.

They are auto-resetting circuit breakers in positions 12 and 14 in the fuse block under the dashboard. If the circuit breaker does not reset automatically, try pulling it and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, replace the one in question with a 30 amp fuse long enough to test the circuit. If the window works with the dashboard switch and the fuse, you can run with it for a while but I would recommend finding a resetting breaker to put back in its place. The wiring runs so far and the motor draws enough electricity that the fuse will fail at fairly short intervals The auto reset also keeps the window from ending up stuck half up for an indefinite period of time if the fuse pops.

Txranger,

I have dealt with so many Bronco back glass questions that that answer rolls out from memory. I really just intended to add to what you had already said. Fuses will work; they just don't last very long and upping the amperage on the circuit can cause overheating and potential fire/meltdown of the wiring itself.

They are pretty cheap, around $5 I believe. If the circuit breaker is good, the wire to the rear window switch from the fuse panel that is hot only in accy or run is a light blue wire with a black stripe. Position 14 in the fuse panel is the circuit breaker you are looking for. Circuit breaker at position 12 is the one that is hot all times to the key switch in back. Check to make sure that lb/blk wire is hot at the switch with key on. Hope that all makes sense. Good luck.
