Question about running board braces

I have 51 panel truck that has 2 running board braces on each side, I notice that the trucks have three. Are these running board braces the same a far as demensions? I thought somewhere I seen that the truck ones are shorter? If so can someone tell the demensions of the truck braces are?

I am only intrested in the measurement from mounting point to the end of the bracket.

Thanks in Advance

The panel trucks have different running board brackets than the pickups. They share the same brackets with the flat bed trucks, along with the same short running boards with the exception of the notch cut out of the back to allow the boards to fit under the body of the panel truck.

What Bob said is correct.

Here are some photos from my collection (and parts) to show the differences that Bob has explained.

On the running boards, here's a short running board from a flatbed or cab only truck.

Here's a running board from a Panel truck. Note the square notch cut out in the rear upper corner.

Dale, I used to have a lot more, but have sold off a good 60-70% over the years. I haven't purchased a parts truck in over a year.

I have what you need still attached to a frame. I'll get them removed. Check your email.

Just a thought....I'll have to take pictures tonight, but the chassis that I bought from 51Panelman (a.k.a. Ilya) came with panel truck running board brackets. I took them off to put on pickup style version which I have from my F2 chassis. I compared and the panel version has a beefier gusset at the mounting end. They look stronger, so I was thinking of cutting the panel brackets down and using them. Thoughts Ilya??

I think modifying the panel brackets isn't neccesary as long as you F-2 brackets are good. I doubt you're going to gain anything for the work involved.

Just my 2¢

You can use the Panel truck running board brackets on a regular truck, but you may need to cut them to the correct length and re-drill the appropriate mounting holes.

Now that I reread the post I think I see what you're after. If you have to redrill the mounting holes for the pickup brackets into the frame then I would say it didn't matter either way. I don't remember but I thought there was holes for either brace already in the frame.

Besides possibly re-drilling the mounting holes for the brackets in the frame, I meant the the brackets themselves will need to have the correct mounting holes drilled in them in order for the truck running board to be fastened to the bracket.
