Hey guys, my nieghbor has an '88 Bronco, 5.0 with auto, and about 88k. For some reason or another it quit turning over. I jumpered the solenoid and it fired right up. I'm pretty certain it's the nuetral safety switch. Where did Ford hide them on this truck? Thanks in advance!
Jumping the starter relay doesn't bypass the safety switch. I would think that means the relay is bad.
Huh???
Pull the wire with the rubber boot off of the starter relay. Got 12 volts on it with the key at start???
Did that. Put power to the small terminal and it cranked. Definately not the solenoid. No juice to the wire as well. I haven't crawled around the truck too much yet. I just thought it would be easier to ask where the switch was located first. Thanx.
The neutral safety switch is located on the driver side of the automatic trany. Its located near the top pointing up. The cable will come off pretty easy wiggle and pull. Once you have done that identify the two red wires with light blue stripe. make a jumper so that these two wires are connected. This has bypassed your safety switch. Make sure you are in park and give it a try. If it still doesn't work check the grey twelve pin connector located near the break master cylinder resting on the tire well next to the firewall, again look for the red wires with light blue stripe. If you don't find a problem then check your ignition swich located on the top of the steering colomn right above where your shins would be. Your problem should be in one of these places. Let me know what you find.
