That would be pretty cool Chris! I also have a 87 subaru full time 4 wheel drive, I was thinking about putting that under the Ranchero. LOL
TJ, just curious, how would a Jeep Liberty do in the sand? I don't know much about it, I think he said its a V6 3.7 five speed auto.
stick some sand paddles on it, a couple turbos and let it eat!! Bet it doesn't weigh anything so it should be pretty dang good in the sand. Not that I'd know what it takes to run in sand since I'm in Texas. LOL. The only sand my trucks have seen is the coast. My F-150 is going to 4wd beach when it's running. haha

For sure, no road tires in the sand and yes, its light. He said that it should be chipped because its so light the trans shifts a lot. I just wonder what it would be like in the desert here in AZ. My wife and sister-in-law say NO, your tear it up! I just want to go have some fun!! Probably will not get it, don't have the room unless he would take my 74 bug ragtop project in on trade, LOL.

That would be interesting.. I like the idea of a 4wd ranchero! Of course, Subaru beat us to it with the "Brat".. LOL! That was a neat little hunk of junk!

It would do just fine. The key to sand is to air down the tires. I run 16 up front and 14 in the rear when I am on the dunes. I could drop the front more but I am concerned about rolling the bead of the tires off. Also in sand unless you are really light and have lots of power you don't want paddle tires. In sand the less aggressive tread does the best. Floating is the name of the game in sand. Large contact pattern and not digging are key.
TIM!!, Your making me want it all the more! LOL Some of the Jeeps had quadatrack (sp), I suppose the new ones are all electronic controlled four wheel drive?

Yep, Pretty sure the Liberty is electric shift 4wd. I haven't had to deal with the 4wd on on yet so I haven't paid much attention.
Not fully sure why but I kind of like it. However I could not see myself putting my own money into something like that but hey if some else does more power to them.
Way back in the 70's I was driving down a road in Bedford, Pa. and some guy with a Pinto body on one of the original Bronco chassis came rolling by.
What made me laugh the most, I was in a cab over semi and we were eye to eye out the side windows.
Don't know how much lift was under there, but it was a bunch.
