Front spring selection

Can someone please advise me on front spring selection. I have a 2001 7.3 Diesel 4x4 currently with aftermarket springs and a HD Ranchhand front bumper. This spring kit was sold as a direct replacement and was to give me only 2.5 inches of lift. WRONG! I ended up with 4.5 inches of lift. My goal is to replace the aftermarket springs with something that will carry the extra load of the bumper and only end up with 2-2.5 inches of lift. I understand that a lot of you have used the "V" code springs but I don't think these will be enough. Has anyone used a higher rated spring ( W or X ) on their X and if so what was the lift? How is the ride? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
God bless,
Mickey

How long have you had the lift springs on there? They will settle quite a bit over time.

jeeplj8, Thanks for the reply. I understand that is the case but I am still leaning toward replacing them with HD factory style springs. I may be wrong but I feel these will settle and become weak over time faster than the factory HDs. Thanks.
God bless,
Mickey

Additional question

If I don't plan on towing, V code springs for the fron are good, but what about the back? With no towing n mind is it still B like I have heard?

I'd go with the X codes. You'll get around 2.5" of lift over OEM Excursion springs, give or take a tenth.

The X codes were used for the snow plow package and would probably handle the extra weight of your bumper better.

Stewart_H, Thanks for your reply. It sounds like the right lift but will these be too harsh in the comfort department? Is there anyone out there who is running this setup and could I get some eye candy if so? Thanks.
God bless,
Mickey

As you know, "too harsh" is subjective. Especially when you might be used to something a lot softer.

Then again, you might already be used to something others might think is too harsh!

I wish I could add my opinion to your "harsh" question, unfortunately I haven't been lucky enough to come across a rig with X codes.

I know in the future I do wanna swap my V's out with W codes and mod my B's to get a little more lift.

I have a friend in CO who drives a F-350 with the snow plow mod. I will ask him his opinion on the ride in the morning. I'm sure he has the X codes and will ask him for a measurement of the lift. Any idea where to locate a set Xs? Thanks.
God bless,
Mickey

I like new springs, so when it came time to purchase my V's and B's, I went straight to the dealership.

And God has blessed me abundantly, thanks!

i had X codes on my old 2004 V10 Ex. i really liked the ride after the springs but thats me. it was stable and firm yet not harsh in my opinion. i got about 3" of lift. but that was with the lighter V10.

here was my old Ex with X code springs in the front and F-350 blocks in the rear.

here it was stock, kinda hard to see the differance but it was 3" in front and 2" in rear over stock.

you know they are going on 2 years old and still working great for the new owners. so they may very well be worth the price. i think i paid $240 or 260 for the set. in 2009
