My 54 F100 has Robertson type bolt heads for the bed to chassis mount. The 54 has been sitting for 35 years or so and just about every bolt and screw has been a pain to get off so far. Considering I'm going to be applying plenty of force, a plain Robertson screwdriver isn't going to cut it. Does anybody know what will I can get in there and apply some decent pressure to hold the head still while I work the nut on the bottom? I don't have any Robertson pieces so I dont want to go buy things just to test them.
I used a drill to get the bed off of my truck...on the bolts that I couldn't get the nut splitter on....I found it safer and faster to replace the bolts that were hard to move instead of reuseing them..drill the head out and lift the bed off..some of my bolts were a square shank and did not turn from the top ...you had to get underneath and undo the nut..you never know what your gonna find on a 40 yearold truck..
I ground a regular hex-head bolt to fit (square), and welded it to a piece of angle iron to make a wrench. No way around it, it helps to have two people. You can take out some of the boards to reach thru and do both wrenches at once by yourself.
