The slipping or as I refer to it the dead zone has been a common problem with the 2nd to 3rd shift. Ford has updated the software and the PCM needs to be re programed. It sounds like they screwed up while doing it. There have been quite a few on here that have had this happen. I need to have it done also and are waiting for my first oil change do so and hope that my dealer is able to do so without frying my PCM. Hope that you get yours up and running again soon.

Well it's good (and bad) tah hear that other peeps encounter that 5th gear rpm drop. I have not had anymore instances of it slipping going from 2nd to 3rd, and I am taking the advice on the rpm drop in 5th @ 40mph as its the torque converter. Thank so much all.

Well it has gone from bad to worse. They fried the new pcm. They are ordering another one again. This time they were instructed not to use the newest update and that should fix. We shall see.

The PCM reprogram did solve my issue 99%. Once in awhile I will feel a small delay when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, but nothing like it was before the reprogram.

Following is how my service ticket was written when I had the work done in July. Wording seemed to be important to the service guy.

P66 CUST STATES HAS FLARE WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO
3RD GEAR
REPROGRAM PCM N C
PER 11-06-11 TSB

Hello fellow Forders, I stumbled on to this sight looking for some help.

I am having issues with 2nd to 3rd shifting on my 11 350 W/6.2. Took it back to the dealer and they reprogrammed the PCM. Lasted about 2 weeks before it started to act up again. I talked to the service manager to see what he thought could be done. He told me that he would call Ford to see if there was something else to try. As of this afternoon he had not recieved a reply. Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

I have an 08 and have occationally noticed what I'd call a hard shift kinda whats been described between 2-3 gear. To me it felt like a torque converter grabbing since it was in low RPM. If you hammer on the rig and it runs and shifts fine, it's fine. There is some play in all the moving parts of an auto trans. I'm no mechanic, but I have mechanical aptitude and it seems "normal" to me.

You should start a new thread. Your transmission is not anything like the newer ones. What fixed theirs will not work on your transmission.

I wasnt sure if it was. To be honest I'm not overly concerned with it. Just something I felt "seat of the pants" occationally. I have a warranty so if I notice a persistant problem I may take it in. Ive only noticed something maybe 2 times in 6 months. Thanks for the heads up.

Depending on the build date of your truck, there's 3 solenoids that need to be replaced as well. Did yours require this, and if so, was it done by the dealer? There has been a couple of 6.2 owners that never seemed to have their trans issues resolved after applying the TSB, haven't heard any updates from them but there's a long thread down in the 6.2 forum about the transmission.

Details of the TSB below.

Silverbullet,

Thanks for the info!!! I passed it along to my dealer today. I will make an appointment ASAP to get it in to the doctor. The truck was built on 9/10 and they did not replace those solenoids when it was in before. I will let you folks know how I make out. Thanks again!

Trans. fix update.

I got my 350 back from the Doc today. They swapped out the three solenoids and reprogramed the computer. We'll see what happens!!!

Thanks again Silverbullet for your help!
