Performance: 3.5L vs 5.0L
#32
I've driven both now too and would say this. The 5.0 feels great, especially compared to my 2004 5.4. However, the Ecoboost was simply stunning, and IMO humble opinion left me thinking there was no doubt this was the motor to get. On an average interstate merge ramp the Ecoboost had me going 90-95 without really trying. For the doubters out there, you owe it to yourself to at least drive it, then decide.

I am not allowed on car lots without adult supervision... I.E. my wife (she is afraid I will break and buy something). Actually I have been helping other folks find trucks. But I keep looking at the 3.5 EB and I really want to drive one, just to see what it can do. But there lies the problem, I am sure that I would love it and start dreaming, then I would start to get the itch, then I would start to annoy my wife, and we all know how it would end.

Ecoboost vs 6.2 vs 5.0 HP and Torque
Ecoboost vs 6.2 vs 5.0 HP only

Where did you get the hp charts from? All I've been able to find were the torque charts.
Nice first post.
But anyway, welcome to FTE.

No problem. I didn't get them from anywhere....I made them. The formula I made generated them from scratch. Since hp is just a derivative of torque, i took the torque and rpm numbers from the torque graph, plugged in the hp equation (torque x rpm/5252 = HP) and then graphed the results....and those are the hp numbers it came up with.

If this was a joke, you can use the emoticons to the right of the page to emphasize your post.
I thought it was a great post and he shows the effort and enthusiasm that we all benefit from here on FTE.
I repped him for his great effort.
Welcome to FTE by the way.

I just bought ecoboost crewcab with 3;73 gears. Traded 2010 chevy silverado crew and the eco is so much better all the way around. i haven't towed yet not til april. As far as mpg the eco is way better in town 30-40 mph about 17-18 mpg on flat rd 55mph 25mpg and 55-60mph on normal roads with hills bends about 19-21mpg. Its super quiet and very responsive. I love this truck i have 7.3 desiel and like that also but the eco I will be driving more especialy when the fuel prices keep rising. The eco also has tow moad and you can lock out 6th and 5th gear for towing. Hope this info helps

This is some great info. I own a 7.3 and will be down sizing this Summer. Unknown wether I will sell my 7.3 or holding on to it. Before reading this post I was sold on the 6.2 but after reading I'm on my way to the stealership for a test drive of the EB. hard to believe that a 6 cylinder will out perform a big 6.2 V8. Looking at the FX4 as I do alot of hunting and towing and like the off road package of the FX4.
Thanks everyone for the info.

I test drove both the 5.0 and 3.5. Love the grunt of the 5.0, really sounds nice when you lean into it. The 3.5 EB really is a nice engine, very peppy and no perceivable turbo lag, whine or whistle. Drove it with wet roads and really couldn't test driveabilty with a salesman in the car. Wasn't really doing the drive for pre buy. Mostly to see if I even fit in the cab (6'6" and 255lb.). I have no doubt the 150 can tow my TT @8300lb, two things that make me hesitate are..
1. The ability of the truck to slow down in a descent to hold the line and slow down the trailer. I drive a f250 7.3 and that has no problem at all.
2. The 3.5 EB is a relatively new motor. As kind of a personal rule I don't buy new anything, especially motors until the bugs are worked out. I'm not sure when this motor first came out.
On a side note, not real keen on the choices of dash options. the blond wood panels are very light, the aluminum seems a bit over the top, a little would be fine but the whole face of the dash seems a bit much. The black mat kevlar is fine, i just wish you could kind of see the fiber or imprint a little better.
Really like the topless gas fill. The dash info is nice as well. I was astonished that I can actually sit in the back seat with room to spare. I sat back there without moving the driverseat forward after sitting in it and I still had 4-5 inches between my knee to the back of the seat.
Just my .02

This is exactly what I'm after and what I'd like to see....and also include some comparable MPGs ;-)

ecoboost towing so far
I just towed for the first time with eco. the trailer weighed about 3500 lbs and is tandem axle. At take off the power is awsome and better than my deisel. The handling is great the trailer when empty hit some bumps and got a bit crazy and the truck adjusted its self and straitend out the trailer. The built in brake control is very nice. The gauges tell you everything about hookup and miles towing. The fuel milage I saw when loaded was 12.9-13.8 the couple of trips I took, thats average so I'm pleased so far. I will be taking a 4hr trip next weekend and the trailer will have a atv sideways in front and polaris rzr in back so it won't be arrowdynamic at all. It will prob weigh about 4400-4500lbs. So we will see what happens, like I said this is a great towing truck cant tell trailer is there and the power is great I had people move over a lane at red light to get in front of me and THEY DIDN'T MAKE IT .
