Wow, there is definately a big difference, the fins are even much taller and don't taper off..Saving money can cost you in the end just by reputation..New Process always had a good reputation. Thanks for sharing the photos.

But nevermind the guy who spent 3 years as a transfercase engineer knows nothing about them. There are legitimate concerns with Magna's Saltillo assembly operations. And as I said the castings are a lot lighter which makes porosity more dangerous.

The mention of a propshaft issue sounds most likely in my mind. It's happened before. I doubt it's torque related. Even if you did get the wheels hopping you'd most likely jump the chain at worst. You can get the chain jammed between the sprocket and the case and blow the chain out but it's not easy. I've seen it on the t case dyno but never heard of that failure in the vehicle.

But what do I care. The opinion of somebody who knows trucks means nothing. All you need to know is that what's newest and has 3 more hp than competitor X must be the best.

Here's the 2011 tcase. MP1528. Note this one was built in Syracuse because it has the red NPG tag. Most 271/273 in production in 2009 and 2010 had the red tag turned around backwards. For some reason Ford doesn't want supplier ID on the tcase, just the Ford logo. As you can see the transfercase forms the rear of the 6R eliminating the adapter housing.
Great info, thanks for posting this.

Interesting pics, I get what you're saying about the lighter casting and less ribbing, I wonder why they did that. Is it an aluminum casing? I wonder how much weight they saved on this...
