Fx4 vs 4x4

Is there any difference in the Fx4 package other than skid plates and shocks? I think 09 Fx4 adds a electronic rear locker but I dont think the 04's to 08's have the locker. I'm looking to buy a F150 4x4 for under $18 and not sure if their is a big difference in the Fx4. Thanks for any input.

You've pretty much nailed it. There are some interior appearance differences that the FX4 provides. Center column and dash panel trim

i would say try getting the fx4 package if you have the ability to, i wish i had got one myself and my next truck will be an fx4. the open diff sucks *** and holds the truck back big time on what it can do when traction is an issue

This is just me, but I was going to get a 4X4 before I got my FX2 and I wouldn't even think of a 4by unless it was an FX4. I like the sporty look much better.

FX4 is shocks, and all FX4's have a 3.73 limited slip axle which as stated above is a big plus... I love mine.. Some have wheels on them, as well as a "FX4" dash logo. FX4 is a little more then just trim. The ranger has a lot more beefier stuff on it, when it gets the FX4 package, in fact the entire axle is entirely different.

Usually it's leather, full center console, different gauge graphics, chrome-less exterior trim and Rancho shocks, skid plates and L.S. Diff. Usually 18" wheels are standard. Drivetrain is the same as any F150 with the 3.73 L.S., and I doubt the shocks are really anything special. The skid plates would be nice, though. Think of it as an off-road oriented Lariat package.

One option the FX4 should be available with but it isn't is a manual transfer case. That way you have 4x4 when you need it.

My 06 XLT has a manual transfer case.
I've had to pull my dad's old F150 out a few times because his electric transfer case decided it didn't want to work when he needed it to and he got stuck. He now has an F250 with a manual transfer case.

I believe you can still get the manual TC on a XL,STX and XLT.Altough quite a few XLTs have electric TC's.

Here is my manual 4x4 shifter. It may be ugly but it's reliable.

Does the F150 transfer case have a neutral provision like on the F250/350 case? Just curious.

04's and up for the F-150's all have locking rear diff's, but electronic controlled is optional, the standard ones rely on a clutch pack assy. in the rear diff's.
