I Just had my mechanic install a new front drive shaft, tranfer case gear box and the tranfer case pig tail which was about 6 ft long with all the a quite a few connections.
I never had any issues with the trans I piked it up and once i left the light was flashing I and my trans was not shifiting properly do you think it could be a bad connection to the pig tail ?? any idea.....Thank you for your time.
There's a input shaft speed sensor on the top of the transmission that has an electrical cable running to it. There's also an output shaft sensor in the rear. Be sure they're both plugged in. They both could be plugged into that new harness, though I'm not sure.
However, the best way to trace this is to know the malfunction code that is causing the O/D light to flash. You need a specialized code reader to do this, as Ford diesels don't subscribe to the normal OBD-II convention.
Too far for me to help you but since you never experienced this problem, OD light flashing, I'd call the shop and arange for the shop to look at it again, without charge that is. Like Pop mentioned, something might not have been snapped in all the way or something minor.
wait, a normal OBDII scanner won't work with our trucks? I have an e99 250 and the plug on my pocket scanner fits perfectly, and acts like it's reading. It's never pulled any codes, so I thought it was fine. I had the O/D lite blink on me one time right after I got my truck but I got "0 codes" so I figured it was fine.

No a generic code reader will not pull codes from our 7.3's

The generic cheapies like you find at Autozone to use on customer vehicles don't work.
Diablosport Predator, SCT X-cal II, and the Superchips mentioned above by Mike will read our diesels.
AE is the best though because it does more than code read and clear.
