Ok so i have a 1986 F-150 4x4 4spd. The motor is a 5.0L that is knocking.
I currently have a running 1968 5.0L with latter heads for the hardenned valve seats. I also have a 1991 5.0L from a T-bird. It's complete but needs to be put together. My question is what motor should I run? I am looking to get this truck up and going and to be reliable. Someone once said I'ld have problems with the 68 5.0L. I would figure I change over the intake and get the proper flywheel I should be good. I know the motors have diffrect ballance. 68= 50oz 86=28oz. Thanks for any help. I just don't have much $ to spend on this. I plan on keeping it alive till I can do a major rebuild on everything.
Either motor would work and both could use a cam change to be compatable with the EFI system in the truck but maximize output potential, but the '91 will be the most direct swap into your truck. BTW.. 302/5.0 engine balance weight is 28oz up to 1980 and 50oz after.

Thanks for reasureing what I thought. If the cam of the motor being replaced is good, should I use it?? Also thanks for setting the balance right. I get it mixed up at times. Yet I always double check before I put on parts ect.
