Have you considered taking it out of low range?

I get 8.5 with a 360 np435+205 and 3.50 gears on 35's in 2wd

4mpg sounds like something needs to be replaced or even better, the truck sold to a stupid person.

Last tank with hub locked 4x4H deep Snow, 4.26mpg

So locking hubs and using 4x4H as needed %50 more fuel.

It don't mater how bad the MPGs are its doing its job of getting me to work in some nasty weather!

my F800 with 7.8 gets about 8! F250 4X4 PSD gets 16...99 Chevy 2500 5.7 gets 15(for sale by the way) you do have issues...like one of the guys noted..runnin rich. my brothers 85 (i think) 351 4X4 is getting 12...and he claims somethings wrong

The 88 i had on 33's got about 7-8 with the 351 in it c6 granted i was young and had my foot in it cause i loved to hear them true duals no cats and blown out glass packs roar

now my 96 300 i6 4spd auto got 12 in 4h in the snow the other day

Not to add anything productive but... this isn't a holley carbed truck with a blown power valve perhaps. All it takes is one backfire and you enter a world of running rich and ***** mileage.
