Ryan, Don't know about the 4X4, but the early heavy half were the 150s, all F100s prior.

Heavy half???

Ford didn't make an F150 in 1970....just 100, 250, 350 and the bigs, 500, 700, 800, 1000, etc.

Heavy half???

If it has a leaf spring front end, it is most likely a F-250 or F-350.

The F100 4X2's were twin I-Beam.

Rebo-Didn't the F-100 4X4 have a leaf spring setup in the front? My F-250 has Twin I-Beams.

F100 4x4's got front coils while F250 4x4's got leaf springs.

Heavy half???

I have looked at the truck, it is a F100 4x4 4spd no power stearing or brakes it only has 2 or 4wd no high or low, has a fe rebuilt. but it has no title, vin # and he had to hot wire it, doesn't that sound a little strange? But it is only for $500 with a modified motor and several t 10 tranies with it so I think that i will get it even with out the title, thank you for all your help.

Talking Heavy half???

"Heavy Half" is what GMC called their version of the F150. Therefore, that term is not be used on this site, sort of akin to calling a Flareside a "step side". Now, let us never speak of it again.

Actually, Ford did make a leaf-sprung 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup. I'm pretty sure it was the 73-77 supercab F1504x4s. I've only `seen one in my life, and it was in rough shape. The regular cabs were coil-sprung up front. The Ford "F150" came about in 76 as a heavy duty half ton. It came with heavier rated rear springs, a heavy duty 9-inch rear (31 spline?), AND A np205 transfer case, as opposed to a Dana 21 in the F1004x4, which was dropped for 77.

since the C/10,F-100 were well known as 1/2 tons.

It sounds stolen. Run from that truck, maybe even drop a dime.

Heavy half???

Dennis, in 1975, when Ford introduced the F-150 to get around the catalytic converter requirement for pickups, Chevy and GMC followed suit. However, they did not rebadge the C-10/1500, they just applied stickers to the rear upper fender on the bed. The Chevy was called the "Big Ten" and the GMC was the "Heavy Half". Chevy then switched from their 2-digit nomenclature (i.e. C-10, C-20, etc) to the GMC 4-digit (1500, 2500) in 1988. GMC always called even their half-ton truck the 1500, I guess in an attempt to show that they were bigger and tougher than the Chevy, even though by the 60s this was not true anymore.

I never paid much attention to what was going on over at Dodge. Still don't.

Wasn't the original question asking whether a 1970 F150 (no such thing, but later changed by poster to F100) truck had leafs? If one looks long and hard enough, there will always be an anomaly out there.
