hm thanks guys, any links to the relay upgrade with the wires. ?
I got the harness from GOS perf. for $75, it's well made & fits nice - they're probably all pretty much the same so if Clay has it that's a option. A fella could easily make one if you want to hunt the sockets & relays, was worth the $ to just plug & play IMO. The '02-04 headlights w/Silverstar bulbs & the harness works good for me. Jason's setup sounds good also
not to HJ, but I have been thinking about upgrading my 99 to 05 headlights, but I was just looking at the two systems and the 05 looks like the actual headlight is much smaller than the headlight area on the 99s. What are ppls thoughts on this, are the 05s less bright etc.?
Go HID. In the long run youll be much happier. By the time you buy the upgraded wiring and the bulbs for xenon or hyperwhites or any of the others you could spend an extra $40 or $50 and have a brighter much more white light. I'll post a pic of mine. cost under $200 for my hid kit. And i hard wired it in due to burning up my plugs running the hyper whites without upgrading the wiring.

Optics in the '05's are prolly better - but the bulb it uses is an epic POS design. I think the best light you can get is the '02 clear lenses, relay harness and 80/100 bulbs. If you NEED more light, get some quality driving lites and/or fog lites to go with your headlights.
I have both '05 lenses with HID's and '02 clear lenses with 80/100watt bulbs. I would never 'upgrade' the '02 headlights - they are more than adequate!

Yeah, these cheap hid's often appear brighter - flooding the road right in front of the vehicle, but the optics are off so they are actually just scattering the 'brighter' light - resulting in less lighting distance. Simultaneously, they are hurting the eyes of oncoming drivers. I'm not always proud of it, but I tend to retaliate - and I have you (cheeep hid's) outgunned!
On the subject, I have had lites on the front of my truck that were tooooooo brite for hwy driving. 100watt aircraft landing lights. They make the reflections from street signs uncomfortable to look at - like worse than oncoming headlights...
I was more looking to change the look of the front of the truck to the 05 lights and grille, but I am having second thoughts. Therefore I was just curious about the performance of the two styles compared to each other. Also, aren't the 80/100s illegal for highway use?
I do not feel the need for an HID kit, mostly bc it really irritates me when ppl pass head-on with them (prob with the lesser quality kits mentioned previously) and you're rendered blind.
Just trying to weigh the options....I kinda like the look of the 05s, but I'm also taking ppls comments about turning the mighty 7.3 into a 6-into consideration, haha
I totally agree with what was mentioned about the "cheap" HID kits but I dont feel i "cheaped out" with mine. i tend to do my research before buying and went with a reputable kit. The key with HIDS is aiming them at a comfortable height for yourself and other drivers. Its one of the best mods I've done. After hitting two deer in the past and living in a heavily deer populated area you tend to want to see where your going. I just thought i would mention them bc its simple plug and play with them and theres no need to buy any wiring harness. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=59694

Nice looking truck!!! Dude, you ain't kidding when you say 'heavily deer populated area'. I have friends up the road from you in Dover, and OMG are there a lot of deer in that part of the world!!!!! I almost wonder if it would be less stressful to NOT be able to see them all along the sides of the road.
Fwiw, the ElectroSport is the ONLY HID kit I've seen that angles the bulb to provide near-stock optics. Its what I put in F350 and was plug n play. No longer on their website??? Ford F350 HID lighting conversion kit | Facebook
Anyone that blinds the crap out of me with glare from an HID kit installed in stock housings gets a taste of some nice bright Hellas on the front of the grill guard. I can't stand the a-holes that install HID kits and blind people with the glare.
You are better off with a non fluted housing and a relay harness. I did just the relay harness in my 92 Explorer with some Silverstar bulbs and the difference was amazing. Rather than 10-11v at the bulb I had the full 14v.

Never been accused of blinding anyone. Haven't had one high beam flash at me. It's all in how u adjust and aim them. You have to be considerate of the other drivers on the road.
I've been kicking the idea around of doing some updates to my Grill/headlights. I came upon this harness today while I was looking thru a catalog I just got. Seems kinda cheap compared to some of the other links I have seen posted. Will this work & is the price to good to be true??

I don't doubt that you haven't been flashed. That still doesn't change the fact that when you use an HID light in a housing designed for a halogen bulb there will be glare Some housings will have less glare than others. You are right in that aiming and adjustment does play a large role. It has been my experience that using a relay harness, good housings and good bulbs goes a long way towards having good light output.
