You are gonna run into one issue. I did the exact opposite. (89 tank into my 94) The pumps have little alignment tabs that fit into slots in the tanks. The 89s don't line up with 94s. All you gotta do is cut another slot in the tank. Just make sure the tank is empty. I used a small cutoff wheel, making sure to cut up so the sparks and particles shot out instead of into the tank. But after that, yeah, they're the same.

I checked a couple of parts supply houses. They all show a compatibility break between 1989 and 1990. 1989 and down are different part numbers than the 1990 and up.
