My truck has been stuck in regen for about 80 miles now. I know it's(DPF) had a hole in it for quite a while now because it'll blow some black smoke when towing or just gettin' on it. My service guy at the dealer told me I should fix it a while ago or it could burn out a sensor.....apparently now he gets to say I told you so. Tuesday morning it goes in, I've got an extended warranty on the truck so if there is a bad sensor and it happens to be the one that isn't covered under ford's warranty then that warranty should pick it up. I'll let y'all now how it goes. I HATE EMMISSIONS CRAP I'm thinking that if they replace the dpf, it'll be a perfect time to do a delete because all those bolts will be nice and fresh.....we'll just see what happens.
FYI, the extended warranty does not cover the DPF as far as I can see, it specifically excludes the exhaust system. The DPF and all related sensors are covered under the 5yr/50k mi emissions warranty.
Sounds to me like a perfect time for some tuning, your truck will love you and you will not regret it.
thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been watching guys like you with lots of tuned miles and no problems and it's been the cause of lost sleep sometimes!LOL I'm thinking of just doing the dpf delete because it's cheaper and I don't want loud exhaust.(i figure the closer to stock the better for being quiet) And as luck would have it, Spartan is having a sale right now for the tuner and dpf only delete. My winter-time mileage has been about 10-11mpg because I've only been going short distances and the truck will stay in regen for 2-3 days straight sometimes. SICK OF IT!!!

well, I'm all set then either way because I've only got 44,300miles.
I have thought about it once I get closer to 100K but to tell you the truth mine runs great and does not regen all that often so I may just leave well enough alone till I have a need.

You'd be very surprised with the sound of these trucks after they are tuned. I also didn't want loud exhaust and was very happy after the swap because it was no louder than stock. I have been very happy with the truck after tuning and the only problems I've heard of are from guys who abuse and beat on their trucks. There are lots of guys that work on these things that highly suggest removing the DPF and tuning the truck to improve mileage as well as to increase the engine life. Do what is right for you but I know you will be VERY impressed with how the truck runs after tuning. If you still can't decide then you should see if anyone in your area has a similar truck that is tuned and go for a ride. I can talk all day about how great it is but take a 5min ride in a tuned truck and you'll be sold. I've got roughly 77,000km's with my tuner now and the truck still impresses me every time I drive it. Best of luck.

probably not a bad idea. From our conversation the other day it sounds like your regens are as spaced apart as they can be.

yep, one of the diesel techs at my dealer said that there is a guy that comes in for oil changes that has a crew cab he uses for work(toolboxes ladder rack equip. etc) and is claiming 18 mpg local driving. (spartan w/dpf delete) I think I'd pass out if my truck actually hit 18mpg.LOL! I think we will see very soon how good the tuned mileage of my truck will be, it's just sounding too easy to take that dpf off with all the bolts being freshly installed. Also I figure if I never-seize them upon reinstall they should come out fairly easy if I had to switch it back over.

Why wouldn't you also include a cat delete also while you are under yanking off the EPA induced crap? Is it because of a chance for added exhaust noise?

yes, noise and an extra $300. at current spartan prices.

What's the benefit of removing the DOC? I've read lots about tuning these, but I've never seen the reason why people remove it...
it just opens up your exhaust(less restrictive) so I suppose your egt would be a little lower. my main goal is to stop the regen, so I can't see spending extra money on unecessary stuff. it seems that removing the dpf would also lower egt. Although I was talking to my brother about it yesterday and he brought up a good point. He wondered if regens help keep the doc clean also, and if I would have problems with that clogging eventually. I don't know, maybe someone here does?
It saddens me to see people refer to the clean-air systems as crap needing removal.
If any of you ever get to visit a big city in a country where they don't have ANY pollution
controls on their cars & factories, I'll bet you'll have a new appreciation for what the EPA
does.

I do agree with clean air, no one can argue that we need it... But I don't agree with burnig half again as much fuel to do it. That seems very counter-productive. There has to be a better way...hopefully someone smarter than me will figure it out before too much more time passes.
