I have an '01 f250 7.3psd. I'm getting ready to change the belt on it (motorcraft belt that I have put 100,000 on and don't know when it was changed before that, pretty impressive I think). Anyway, If I do the dual raditator hose mod while changing the belt do I have to drain the whole radiator or can I get away with not draining the whole thing. I plan on doing a coolant flush sometime within the next few months but I don't have time for it now. I want to go ahead and change my belt though. Also, I read somewhere on here that when you change the belt you should scuff up the pulleys a little with a wire brush and clean them with brake cleaner. Does this sound correct? Im also going to change the tensioner pulley in the process. Is this something you can get at autozone or does it have to be ordered from ford? Thanks in advance.
No reason to change the tensioner unless you are having some sort of problem. 100k is the recommended service life of the belt so you are about due for a new one. You can drain the coolant into a clean container so the level is low enough to change the upper hose and then reuse the coolant. I would use a coffee filter as a strainer when pouring the coolant back in the system.
If you are going change out the tensioner, also check the idler pulley for bearing looseness..
