Or, you could do something different and keep your hanger in its stock location and cut a hole in the bottom of the hanger to allow your shackel to be flipped. Just add a little bracing on top with some 3-16 or 1/4 cold rolled and you'll never have to touch it again, and its a basically free upgrade.
I did this on mine and It holds up to 44s a 460 and a detroit. Just thought I'd through that out there.
Oh just make sure your hole has enough clearence you can bind it up under big flexes if the hole doesn't have the proper ammount of clearance.
Go to 2:10 and pause it and there you can see the kind of mod Im talking about if anyone is still confused. Don't hate on the truck cause its a chebby either. If you watch the video you can see that It is as well built as any truck on here, including (dare I say) 75 f350's. *shudder* I hope he forgives me for that. It just doesn't have the motor his has...
That rear shackle hanger is scary as hell, booger welds on every part I saw that wasnt simply tacked, a terrible rear d-shaft angle, thats crossover not highsteer, detroits do not "help a 60 hold up."
Not to be defensive but, Its a drop shackel for a chevrolet, he just used it for a little lift. The guy is a ridiculous welder, he worked as a welder for years and tig, arc, and mig anything together. He knows about weld penetration and what works and what doesn't. I don't know what "tacked" parts you are talking about, the rear driveshaft is at a steep angle because of the doubler assembly, his pinion is rotated to match the angle and he has 1410 driveshafts and a 1350 cv at his transfer case. He has No driveline vibration at all. Sorry about my improper nomenclature, that is cross over and not high steer. And that was stupid to say detroits help a dana 60 hold up. My apologies.
That truck has been built for 10+ years, and the only thing that has broken whatsoever in its abused life are the straps that originally held on the 1350 u joint on the rear end. He has swapped to u bolt style 1410s since then.
Ok sorry, shouldn't have started a debate. Believe what you like about the truck, whether it is right or wrong. Opinions are for my build thread, outside of I try to not feed any bull, I just recommend what I have Sorry if I stepped on anyones toes.
Personally Id never hack up my stock hanger and weld a couple pieces of flatbar to it to gain some lift. Its so much easier and safer to flip it the way people have been doing for years, buy a shackle flip bracket or build your own. I dont doubt it has held up but you'd never see it under my truck.
