It should be a Dana 44 axle. By the late '70s the F150 4x4s all had Dana 44s with disc brakes, so the best thing you can do is find a complete axle with discs and either swap axles or take the outter ends and put them on your axle.
If you swap axles make sure the gear ratios match, otherwise you'll have a whole set of new problems.
