Hi all, trying to repair and upgrade front disc system on my '77 F-150. Have found info here on FTE how you are supposed to drive out the caliper support key and spring, but this thing wont budge. Tried drift and hammer and even air chisel, but no dice. If you look at attached pics, it looks like caliper has kind of slipped down on the key and wedged maybe?!?
Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.

Everything looks right to me, try some WD40, then you just have to keep pounding, the two peices might come apart when you tap and that is ok, try just tapping it without the drift
That key looks pretty torn up; I guess that's from the air chisel? Probably a stupid question on my part. The caliper is sitting like it should.
WD-40 is not a penetrating oil; it's a lubricant. Try soaking it with PB Blaster over the course of a few days, then go back at it with a drift and BFH. If that doesn't work, try a Bigger-FH.
Yep, that looks like a deal where you need to forget the air chisel. Soak it down with some PB and get the biggest hammer & drift you have and put a few serious hits on it. If it doesn't move after that soak it down again and let it sit again and then a few more big hits. A few cycles like this will jar everything enough to get the oil in.
Once you get it apart coat it with anti sieze compound so this doesn't happen again.
I'm not familiar with all calipers, but looks to me that your hitting the wrong thing. In your first picture to the left of your deep cut, try driving that part out from the rear(backside).
OK, soaked it in some PB Blaster overnight and again this morning. Will try and pound on it again this afternoon. I know air chisel was bad idea, but replacing calipers anyway. . Thanks for all the suggestions.
It will slide out either way.... You can turn the wheel so you can get to the back side too and try to drive it out that way.
Also the calipers need to be able to slide slightly back & forth, that's how they compensate for pad wear and be able to release after you release the brake pedal. Once you get them off clean the surfaces the calipers slide on top & bottom and coat the surfaces (lightly) with some anti-sieze so this doesn't happen again.
Wow...Finally got it out! Wouldn't budge driving it from outside in, would only come out when I climbed under and drove it from the inside out. Thanks again for everyones help.
