I was looking under my dash to see how the PO had wired the Prodigy brake controller and noticed several loose wires. They are taped (with factory silver tape) to the loom that feeds the OBD II. There is a white, red, blue, black, and teal colored wire - all dead ending there with no sort of tape or plug on them. I also noticed a black, red, blue, and white wire under the hood on the driver side firewall that are not hooked to anything. I haven't had a chance to test yet to see if these are the same wires, but what are these for?
My guess is to hardwire in a brake controller if you can't find a plug to plug into the factory harness?
The 4 wires that are both under the dash and in the engine compartment are called pass-through wires. They just pass through the firewall and are there for whatever you might want to use them for.
The other wire might depend on what year truck you have, but if it is a 14 gauge wire attached to the OBD-II bundle, it is probably the accessory power wire. It is there for whatever you might want powered, is fused 10 amp and should be on in Run and Acc.
Wow. I have never seen the pass through wires. I wonder if '01 has them or if mine have already been used. But that is a cool idea!
Your 01 has the same wires. The other end of the passthrough wires comes out of the firewall behind the brake cylinder. The other one has power going to it when the ignition is on.
