The Truck Shop --- West Sayville, NY
I have been looking into starting a shop like this for a while, and I know anything like this is going to take alota work and im willing to do it, but i was just wondering what type of education and anything else i would need inorder to do something like this.
thanks for your help
Do you have any experience in running a business? Or installing the products you are looking to sell?
You're gonna need a building, a business license, plenty of shop equipment (presses/lifts/tools), experience in installations would be good, employees if you can't do it all yourself and insurance. There's a lot more but that's some of what to think about.
Hopefully some small business owners will chime in for more info. Good luck!
If you have never had your own business I'd suggest you check out the local colleges or community colleges. Many of them will offer a class about starting your own business that will go over all the stuff you'll need to learn and understand before you can even think about turning a wrench.
You also need to have a cash reserve lined up when you open your doors. Don't plan on making a profit right away while you get the word out and wait for customers to start banging down your door.
thanks for the help
the only experience i have had in starting a busssiness is when my little brother and i started mowing lawns around where we live. I was planning on finding a college that would have some sort of course in bussiness and a car mechanic course. I don't really have any experience in installing the products, i was thinking that i could learn that in school. And clearly im gonna need a big loan to get the tools and other equipment.
Perhaps a good place to start would be to work at a shop like that to learn the ropes a bit. Determine what works and what you would change if you were in charge. That would also help you meet some of the crowd in your area that would be your future customers as well as learn what sells and what does not.
thats a good idea, there are a couple shops like what i want in my area, i was just wondering would they want me if i don't really have any experience installing these products, i guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot, and i can always learn.
