Hey guys. I'm having trouble with my truck when it comes to starting. I have a new alternator and new battery and tested both just to make sure, and they're great. If it starts, I can go as long as I want and it doesn't cut off or anything. But after around 5 starts from the fully charged battery, it won't start. I can jump it off just fine and run it however long I want to...and it may start the next couple of times after jumping it...then won't start again. A couple of months ago when I first got this truck, I had similar issues...then you could just watch the battery gauge slowly drop as you drove it...now it holds a charge while driving. I took it to a friend's mechanic and he found a wire that basically crumbled in his fingers. He cut off the fusible link and reattached the wire. It drove fine for a month or so...then I started having issues again. Does this sound like a wiring problem? Is it too much of a hassle to fix myself or too high of a cost to get a mechanic to fix it? Should I just buy one of those chargeable "jump starters" from the parts store and call it a day? lol...at this point, I'm leaning toward the latter. I do have the Ford code reader, but the only code that comes up is for the EGR valve...so I already know I need to replace that. But the EGR valve shouldn't stop the truck from starting should it? Thanks for any input/advice! P.S. 1987 Ford F-150 4x4 5.0L
