Check out my buddy's newest toy. He's going to install a jet engine in the bed of his 55 F100. He wants to go 200 mph at Bonneville! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rUF-fAHFfg
That reminds me of when I lived in Wichita. We lived close to the base. It was very cool when the B1B's did a full power takeoff at night. Although we didn't really appreciate them making an immediate right hand turn, that would make the house shake a bit.
I think the video would have been better with the actual sound instead of the music.
And definitely keep us posted.
It's a home brewed Pulse-Jet. (same type the Germans put behind bombs in WWII......I.E. V-1)
If you view the the the other videos associated with that "engine" you'll see that and in a couple of them, it almost gets hot enough to blow up in his face and on the "night" run it almost gets away from him!
It appears to produce several hundred hundred pounds of "thrust" by the way it pushes the back of his pickup around....
I wouldn't get too close to that thing when it's "running"!!

The guy that originally formed our car club used to dabble with jet engines, and just about anything else that was scary powerful. A story that has been told to me by 3 people at different times confirms 90% of this to be true...so enjoy.
On a sunny afternoon, this gent (I hate to name names) decided he was going to fire up his new creation. The precurser to US1 was chained to his garage so as not to let it get away. Not many at this time had dabbled with jet power on wheels, so no clue what it would do. After some tinkering, it was ready. He fired it up and it ran quite smooth. The garage started to lean and creak a little, but did not collapse. He kicked on the after-burner and burned his garage down in a few minutes. Back to the drawing board. After a few more adjustments, a new garage, and a lot more chain, he laced it up so the front of the car was out into the street. They fired it up, hit the burner again, and once again burned the garage down. He decided yard testing was no longer an option.
I am not an authority on jet propulsion, jet engine specifics, or anything of the sorts, but I know someone who is. He still takes one of his jet powered creations to drag strips to burn stuff down as an exhibit, or make the occasional pass.
