mirror options

I have taken off my original aluminum trailer type mirrors and installed original oem slim/sport style mirrors. They are, I guess, the same as a Ranger mirror.

These mirrors have a problem of constantly loosing their adjustment. It started as a gradual thing but now I as frequent as closing the door.

Has anyone had any luck with putting a 'newer style' mirror on our style trucks?

Without completely redoing my door, I was thing of something that would possibly using the same bolt holes. Clean, simple and OEM style.

There should be some phillips screws under the head you can tighten so it stays where you put it, if it's the type mirror I think you are talking about.

I don't have an answer for you, but I am very interested in hearing one myself. I want to get rid of my OEM towing mirrors myself, I just don't like how they look despite their great functionality.

I'd love to see a picture or two of what you have installed on your truck right now also. I'm looking for ideas...

Here's an idea for you. How about the stock OEM Ford standard mirrors for the 1980 - 1986 F150s? I know they are not as functional as the more common optional "western" mirrors, but I personally like these better, especially on 2wd trucks. Because of their size, these are not the best if you are doing a lot of towing, but are fine for everything else. They are much slimmer and don't have that long lower brace that bolts half way down the door that always seems to get in the way:

Sorry it took so long to get back. I was trying to post a pic like lariat 85.

I purchased these from NPW. Listed as factory optioned part for my truck.

There is no adjustment for tension. One of them was so loose I took it apart and modified the mechanism for tension, but is still inefficient.

Terpfords, the black mirrors on your truck look like the standard "paddle" mirrors for the Ranger and Bronco II. I have never seen those on an F150 before.

I have seen a few, they were suposely the base mirrors for the short beds only.

My parts 1990 F150 had them to.

My 1981 XLT short bed has the standard mirrors like LARIAT 85 posted and they look
good and are very handy for normal driving and even when I occassionaly pull a car
trailer with it.

Id been thinkin of the "western mirrors" in LMC truck. They look like big rig mirrors but I like my oversized trailer mirrors just fine. I got the ones that mount at two points on the lower door.

I have heard that the newer mirrors off of the trucks around the 94 will work but I have never tried it myself.
