FYI, the ones Lariat posted are subject to the same problems as the O.P's current mirrors. I could never keep mine up. Grease may help this problem out. But ultimately, the best way to make things stop moving is to let them rust.
Where did you get those fordnut? And do those move around on you lariat 85?

Actually, my mirrors stay right where I set them. They are original to the truck, and are still pretty tight. If you are interested, you can get those mirrors from LMC truck (pg. 75) for $39.99 each, including all hardware. Or keep an eye out on Ebay.

I agree. Those mirrors are from a 1992-1996 F150 and just don't look right on an old dentside. I also noticed that the "F Super Duty" emblem is from a 1987-1991 F-Series.
if you think the mirrors look bad ,the inside was painted green, had to do the whole inside, lol before pic after pic sorry for hijacking this thread,i'm bad
Here's an idea for you. How about the stock OEM Ford standard mirrors for the 1980 - 1986 F150s? I know they are not as functional as the more common optional "western" mirrors, but I personally like these better, especially on 2wd trucks. Because of their size, these are not the best if you are doing a lot of towing, but are fine for everything else. They are much slimmer and don't have that long lower brace that bolts half way down the door that always seems to get in the way:
Yeah I like those! I'm willing to sacrifice a little towing visibility for a much better look like this one. I'll be hunting me a pair of these.
Sorry it took so long to get back. I was trying to post a pic like lariat 85.
I purchased these from NPW. Listed as factory optioned part for my truck.
There is no adjustment for tension. One of them was so loose I took it apart and modified the mechanism for tension, but is still inefficient.
Aftermarket replicas are known to be inferior like this. Try to find a factory mirror in a wrecker would be the best option.
By the way, nice 1985 Explorer. Or at least it has the 1985 Explorer stripes anyway.
There were two seperate standard mirrors installed on these trucks.
1980-1982 standard mirror: Pictured by Lariat85: Chrome finish.
1983-1986 standard mirror: pictured above: Black plastic. Same as Bronco-II and The compact Ranger.

That's odd, because my 1985 Lariat model came with the 1980-1982 chrome standard mirror, with every other option available for the 1985 model year. And these are the original mirrors to the truck.
Since all the mirrors were installed by the dealer, I can only assume that the dealer had a set of the older ones and installed them instead. Perhaps the year correct ones were lost? don't know.
According to Numberdummy, None of the mirrors were installed from the factory, even if factory ordered. They were placed on the seat or in the cab, and installed at the dealer when delivered. This kept them from being ripped off during shipping.

Now that is interesting. I would have never known that. Did the dealer also drill the holes in the body for the mirrors?
