cold start,check engine

Hello guys, Had my truck in for service was informed that the batteries failed the load test, while i was away the wife had a hard time starting it{check engine, battery light}.It seemed to start easier if it was plugged in.When i returned i replaced the batteries and i had a really hard time starting it.It was a cold night and i had it plugged in for about 2 hrs.I took it for a run and after about a 1/2 hr the check engine light came on,returned home disconnected the batteries and went for another run ,no engine light. It seems to be running ok but iam concerned i still have a problem. Sorry for the long version , any ideas would be appreicated.Thank you

If you don't have a code reader go to a autozone store where they will check it for you.
