6.9 Clutch HELP

Im taking my truck in on monday to have the clutch changed. Iv already bought the clutch and there was an option for a 11" or 12" disc. I got the 12" after i read somewhere that it will work with the 11" or 12", and be like sort of an upgrade... Am I correct?

According to the Napa website, both the 11" and 12" came up in a search for an 85 F350. Both are for a flat flywheel and have a 1-1/16" input shaft.
NAPA Online

And for what it's worth, the NP435, T18, and T19 4 speeds all share the same 1-1/16" input shaft measurement with 10 splines.

We have a T18 in the Jeep, it uses the same size disc my trucks use.

I've got spare clutch discs for my '65 F350 with NP435, '77/'79/'84 Jeep CJ-sumthing' (It's a CJ8 Scrambler mutt! LOL) with a close ratio T18, and three 85 F350 T19's, and they're all the same: 1-1/16" input shaft with 10 splines. We've also got some Jeep T150 3 speeds that my original IDI clutch disc fit onto last time I checked... It makes sense since the T150 is a version of the Ford 3.03 3-speed on the column.

When I make it out to the garage tonight I'll measure the clutch I've got on the spare 6.9 parts motor. I put a brand new Carquest clutch in my first IDI and then 1 month later the head gaskets let go... At least I can transfer them onto my current IDI when the time comes. And it works out good for you because now I can measure for ya!

Please excuse the Hi-Jack...but what else are you planning for with the truck for future services/repairs/upgrades? Make sure you start a thread if you're not sure on something, there are definetly upgrades you can do when it comes time to replace certain parts.
Where are you getting the Return Line kit from?
Are you doing the IP the same time you do the Injectors? If you can afford the IP, it'll definetly be better to replace the IP and Injectors at the same time. Sometimes an old Injectino pump may not have the power to "pop" those new injectors open from what i understand. That's why I replaced my IP and Injectors at the same time.
Here's where I got mine: 6.9 Ford Diesel parts Fuel Injection Turbocharger
8 Brand new Injectors and a fresh pump, 2 years now and doesn't miss a beat! I get my return line kits from these guys also, awesome kit. Made by Dipaco Diesel. I called them directly and they told me the O-Rings are made from Viton.
And just making sure...you know to go with Motorcraft/Beru glow plugs!!
Can't remember the number, either ZD1 or ZD9 or something...check the 83-86 Glow Plug sticky at the top of the page!

Has anyone actually put the 12" disc on an IDI?
I pulled the clutch set off my spare motor...I got some measurements.
The flywheel is 15-3/4" wide.
The clutch cover bolt holes are 12-1/2" apart ON CENTER.
The clutch cover bolts are 5/16" coarse thread wth 3/8" hex heads.
My clutch disc is 11".

So...how does a 12" clutch fit on the flywheel? Do ya need a certain flywheel or drill new holes or does the 12" clutch cover have a way of clearing the bolts?
With a 12" disc with a cover that has 12.5" distance between the bolts...that leaves 1/4" on each side.

All right...
First off, got a correction to make. I think the clutch cover/pressure plate bolt holes are more like 13" apart. I wasn't measuring straight across the flywheel when i got the 12.5".

11" pressure plate

11" pressure plate, overall width is 13.5".

11" disc

Flywheel, overall width 15.75"

Pressure plate bolt holes, about 13"

I'm really curous if someone has used a 12" clutch set, and how they liked it.

I'm thinking you would have to go with a matching 12" pressure plate for a 12" clutch. I always go with a new pressure plate with the clutch, although I have never knowingly used a 12' in place of an 11". When converting to the single mass flywheel a 12 inch is used.

Oh yeah, absolutely install a new pressure plate and clutch disc. I worded that wrong in my post, fixed now. 11" pressure plate with an 11" disc. 12" pressure plate with a 12" disc. No mix and matching, you want the surfaces to be as tight fitting as possible.
I'm just curious on how a 12" pressure plate fits on the flywheel.

Do you have links to any places you were reading about the 12" clutch? If they sell it, then I'm sure it fits... I'm just curious is all, since I know I'll be doing my clutch within a year or two. I might just use this spare clutch on something else and toss a 12" in the IDI.
