Well, I think we've decided to stick with a 7.3L. We drove 2 of them yesterday. One was a 2000 Limited 4X4 with 102K miles. It was rough. I smelled a diesel leak and it drove like there was something wrong with the engine. Then, we drove a 2003 Limited 4X4 with 63K miles. Man, that was NICE! I think we would have bought it, but the Carfax shows it's been in 1 accident and it has an 8" lift on it. I don't think I can lift car seats into that. I mean, I'm a tall girl, but those seats were higher than my arms could go. I've seen a few of you that might be interested in selling your 7.3L. If you are, can you send me pictures? I'm still new to the site, so I have to figure out how to do all that! I'm definitely interested. If we have to wait 6 months to find the perfect excursion, that's what we'll do!

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm loving this site! Pretty soon, I can call myself an Excursion owner once again!!!!

It is worth the wait to get exactly what you want. Otherwise you have to put up with 'good enough' for a long time.

I didn't catch where you are from but if you live way down south I would kick around the idea of a 2wd. They are cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, and get better gas mileage. They are lower to the ground and IMO drive easier down the road.

Keep up the hunt! You will find what you want! It takes time but dont settle for anything less than what you want. Lift kit on excursion is kind of pointless in my opinon. It looks cool but kills your gas mileage. You live in texas which is the land of trucks. While looking for my X, Texas seemed to have all of the trucks i wanted! Good luck!

I love my 2WD, I didn't even want a 4WD.

if you're ok with the acceleration of the stock 7.3, you should look at V10s... quieter, smoother, cheaper up front, and lower maintenance... And there are a ton more of them around.

Good point, I have a V10 in a 12,000# motorhome and it has a surprising amount of power and the oil changes are 1/3 the price.

I also have a 2wd X and it has been great. Only stuck twice in 100K. Both times on wet grass. Snow and ice have not been a problem, and the front suspension rides nice.
