99 F350, plow. I had plow trouble today and changes the solenoid under the hood. Messing around with it, I tried to short it to see if that got it to work before replacing it. After the replacement, the battery light is on but the volt meter reads normal. The light is supposed to mean the alternator isn't working but if that was true the volt meter should be out of range I think. What did I do???
No it wasn't. When we tried to short the original one we popped the fuse to the dash board and I replaced it, that's it. Then the light was on. It's had like 5 or 6 hours of run time after that with lots and lots of electrical running. I know it has 2 batteries but with the heat, the PLOW, lights, wipers, tunes, it should have died if it was going to.
What do mean by shorting it ? Shorting circuits on newer vehicles can cause computer and other component damage leading to very expensive repairs, make sure you know the electrical system very well before jumping certain circuit types. Just trying to save you possible headaches.
