Hi there all, just wondering if anyone knows more about the 6.0 litre turbo diesel, i am having trouble with just stall while driving, no warning, had engine cough and spit abit then ok, awhile later just stall, stops. restart takes abit then starts, carrys on abit then goes ok. Had the truck down to ford, replaced the fuel mod sensor but still happening.
I am thinking maybe the fuel pump, when you turn the key on, the pump just keeps pumping for a long while, are they meant to stop once enough fuel pumped up, not sure.... have replaced fuel filters too, only had the truck for 2 months , it is right hand drive bought it from a guy in nsw australia, he had for 4 years, said no trouble at all with it, i love the truck, be very grateful if anyone out there may have any ideas as what may be wrong thanks heaps tracey

I fairly sure the fuel pump is constantly running, but is pulsed to pump faster when needed. Make sure the high pressure oil pump is working correctly. There is also a regulator for that as well. Having enough fuel at the injectors is only part of the puzzle, as it's the high pressure oil system that actually operates the injectors.
Do you actually have pictures of this truck you can post? I'm not aware of any Australian spec 6.0L diesel that even exists at all, let alone one that you have in your possession that has a problem. I know that Ford continued on with the 7.3L engine in Australia, even beyond the early 2003 model year that it was discontinued in the North American market.
But back to the question at hand, it definitely sounds like a fuel pressure loss issue by what you describe.
Thanks for all your answers, this truck was bought into australia about 5 years ago by the guy i bought it from, he had the right hand conversion done, he has had no trouble, there is only 2 or 3 excursions over here, but i found out today that the i.c.p sensor was by-passed which i don't know how ,and why, because without that it shouldn't even start, the truck is back down at ford, so i will get photos soon and post them up..
Ford is going to change the oil filters and oil, but i don't see how thats going to help
thanks again
let you all know tomorrow what they say
