My truck drove fine this morning on the way to work. Made it through the deepest of the snow drifts in Mid-Michigan.
On the way home, I couldn't give it full throttle. I could drive it home slowly but I couldn't get it over forty miles an hour. If I give more gas the engine starts missing/chugging and almost stops running. It is almost complete loss of power. Other symptoms noticed......When parked and in park the truck idles normally.....foot on the brake and in drive, reverse, 1 or 2 the truck idles roughly. At this point I can't even get it to move a couple feet to my regular parking spot in the driveway.
I pulled the codes and this is what I got.... 327-EGR Feedback signal is/was low 332-EGR did not open 334-EVP sensor is/was high
All signs are pointing to the EGR/EVP. Is the the cause?
It is cold and dark outside right now. I might wait until morning to play with the truck but I will keep you posted on my findings. It has to be on the road tomorrow night unless this is some random massive tranny failure that appeared without any warning. That would be my luck right about now.
Okay, I couldn't stand waiting and I went out to look her over. Pulled the cover off the filter box and pulled the filter. Guess what I saw.......a tiny pool of water in the bottom of the box. I must have got a little snow inside the box while driving. So, I started the truck and let it warm up for a minute. When she idled down, I put it in drive and gave a little gas and was able to spin the tires on the snow. Then, I put it in reverse and she rolled backwards. At this point I had to get out and shovel the rest of the driveway before I would go into drive and see what happens. This shoveling took a few minutes and gave her some more time to warm up. I got back in and shifted to drive and she rolled forward without any throttle. I repeated the process one more time without shoveling snow in between and the old beast was able to roll both directions without any help from the gas pedal.
I do not want to take it out on the streets right now and see what happens at this hour. You can bet I will take her out in the morning and drive her around to see what happens.
So if this was the issue..... Should I run something in the gas to make sure I don't have anymore water in the system? Seafoam? injector cleaner?
I went out and warmed the truck up this morning and everything seemed just fine. Drove for a couple miles with everything operational. After that the truck started doing it all over again. When I push lightly on the throttle the truck runs fine but if I try to go faster then it starts cutting out and getting weak on me.
Do you folks recommend replacing the EGR, to solve the trouble codes?
I had an 02 Ranger that did a similar thing. It turned out that both catalytic converters were fouled up. If you haven't removed them, it's a possibility. Guarantee it's something to do with the emissions crap.
Do a vacuum test, This will tell you if your cat. is plugging but not likely usually those go gradualy unless something strikes or impacts them or bad back firing, check your EGR system this can cause these symptoms.
