Alright guys, just pulled the trigger for a waterpump. With 105k on my ride, and oriiginal green coolant, think'n that i should also replace the oil cooler o-rings too. Hate to think, i just spent 150 buks of coolant and dist. water, to have it contaminated with oil....what u guys think. Oil cooler has life still in it or change the o-rings? Also, while at it, anything else i should replace....got the upper/lower hoses, thermostat, alum therm housing, serp belt, red coolant,....missing something?
i have 212k on my E99, had it sence 161k (4 years) had all the other leaks but not the oil cooler o ring yet...if your up for the extra work go for it but i all ways go by if it aint broke dont fixed it.
just watch the bolts on the thermostat housing, i broke one off the head on one when i did my t-stat
Degass tank to radiator hose and heater hoses if you want to replace all of them. I didn't replace mine but it seems you are looking at all possbilities.
Doing the same exact project with a new water pump, hoses, 203 degree thermostat. Got ~320k miles on mine. Also installing a coolant filter system and using HD ELC as recommended by some FTE folks I trust. I would recommend you look into one for your project. Evidently the SCA in the coolant will scale over time and cause water pump failure. Make your own, or I recommend one from DieselSite.com. That is also where you can get the correct thermostat for your 7.3L.
As Spunks00 said also watch the torque. 18 foot pounds on the bolts, not the 35 that is out there, it's incorrect.

I disagree.
The 203* thermo might be good if you live in Alaska, but in my opinion the correct thermo is the stock 195* stat. You should stay with the stock 195* thermo, especially if you have custom tunes.
Anyway, both worthwhile mods IMHO if you are already working on the cooling system. The DIESELSITE kits are top class, good looking, well made, and with good instructions.
The doco and research I did lead me to believe that the coolant filter picks up a lot of casting sand that regularly gets dislodged from the engine block. This sand is abrasive and can wear down the water pump so it's better filtered out than left in.
Thanks guys. I've already installed a DIY coolant filtration, and with having green coolant now, put in the filter with the sca. Now that i got the red ELC, ready to go in, i've got the "non" sca filters...santa hooked my up. Yeah, was hesitant about the 203*, so went with the 195*, now its just amatter of contacting bob or clay for the o-ring kit for the oil cooler. That was the delema, think i'll just order them, and get ur over with. Now pick up a kitty pool to drain the existing coolant and 30gal of dist. water i got on my workbench. Been watch'n a few threads/vids on the location and rem/install of the cooler, only bummer is that i just changed the oil, so i'll wait til next interval to do it all...thanks again.
