Exhaust Temperature Sensor

Hi guys - We're looking to mount an EGT to a 2005 6.0 for an Edge chip. Where is the best place to mount the sensor? Man there is no room anywhere. (unlike my 7.3 <cough cough>) Where (ok and how) did you guys mount your EGT? Help my buddy please!

I think most are mounted in the driver side exhaust manifold toward the rear...that is where mine is.

Thanks guys - I've been trying to use the search function, but I get better results with Google, which always brings me back here. Sorry if I was a pain. Thanks amdriven2liv we're on it. My buddy owes you a beer.

Well, the next time I'm in your area, you both will buy!

And if you are ever my way, I'll buy.

I had an EGT gauge installed on my 2003 6.0 and the diesel shop that I had do it put the probe just behind the turbo. Is this spot ok to have it in? I have never really seen one in this location.

It's "OK" just be aware that it's 200-400 degrees cooler in the downpipe than in the manifold for temperature readings. If you see 1250* posted as the "maximum recommended" that's usually in the exhaust manifold NOT in the downpipe. If you see readings that high on YOUR gauge then you're well in excess of recommended EGT's, which in the exhaust manifold would probably be closer to 15 or 1600.

Totally a guestimation here on my part, but I'd say for you it should be in the 400-600 range just cruising. Maybe someone with a post turbo gauge will chime in here.

I am usually around 700 for just cruising. I have a 70hp tune on though so it might just be a little higher then normal.
