I have a 1989 Bronco with a bad transfer case, I went and bought a case from a 1987 bronco. Everything went right on except for the shift linkage. The shift arm on my 1989 does not appear to come off of the t-case whereas the 1987 t-case just has a threaded stud coming out with a rectangular base. My question is how can I get the shift arm off the 1989 case to work on the 1987 case.
Also how do you check the fluid in these? There are 2 plugs on the back bottom but no other plugs from what I can see, 1 is about an inch higher than the other.
Not sure about the 83 linkage. I don't think so simply because I don't think the 1356 t-case was in use yet in 83.
As to the fluid pouring out of the fill hole, I want to say yes, it was over filled however, before I say so, was the truck sitting level at the time you pulled the upper plug? If not, well, you can see where I'm headed with this.
Found another bolt on shift lever off a 1987 today but it is slotted different than how I need it to be. I guess I will have to try to make one. What a @$@^ing headache. Now the stupid truck dumped its tranny fluid, rear antilock light is on, and the windshield wipers wont quit running. All at 123k miles. Can't wait to sell this thing
