EEC failure caused by?

The EEC fried in my 93 lightning, before I replace it I wanna understand what causes the eec to burn out. Can an under drive pulley on the alternator cause this? Where is the best place to find a replacement eec?

Are you sure it's failed? The reason I ask is you are looking for a replacement. You can look at the regular autoparts stores. You will need that long number off the old one though.

They fail just like any electronic piece. It rarely happens but it will once in awhile.

Underdrive, no. Power surge, jump start, bad ground, water, short circuit yes. The best quality would be a FORD reman unit. the parts stores have usually decent units as well

How has the EEC failed? What specifically is the problem that you need to replace it? Like Dave said earlier, it can happen, but it's really rare for the EEC itself to fail, and they generally aren't cheap. I'd hate to see you throw that kind of coin without ruling out any other causes first.

Does your EEC relay click with the switch and send power to the board? Last year I had a bad primary wire going to the EEC relay that really caused me fits. I really don't want to go into all I replaced before I found that little gem. It was one of the guys here that led me to it.

I found out it was def the eec from help on here, I pulled it out and the eec was burnt up pretty good, I went crazy with a digital meter and found no cause for the eec to fail. I'm havin alot of trouble findin one for my model truck, I have one of 2200 lightnings made that year. I looked everywhere for a reman eec, I'm wondering if any other eec's are compatible with my truck? Can I have one reprogrammed from a compatible truck? What is the difference between F3TF-12A650-AC, AA, or AB?

A burnt circuit board would definitely point to some sort of short. Can you take a picture of the burn? sometimes the connections on the board will crack and cause a burnt joint, but if a section of the board or one of the traces disintegrated, then i would look harder for a short.
