removing the PCM

removing the PCM

i need to remove the pcm in my truck. am i going to have problems after plugging it back in? i heard sometimes the computer needs to reboot after this is done, which i expect, but i dont want any long term damage.

Shouldn't be any problem just removing the PCM. SO long as the battery ground is disconnected and you reinstall the same one. The things controlled by it will "relearn" the different things after you have completed a number of drive cycles. Like correct idle, trans shift points etc.

thanks; i'm not replacing it or anything, i just need to get some info off of it...so disconnect the ground wire before messing with the PCM...

Look at this LINK. It will show you how to take the PCM out. I've taken my PCM out many times and never disconnected the ground cable.
