I went to the junkyard & found a 1975 4x4 with ps, and pulled the pump, box, pitman arm, hoses, cooler steering column, tierods & draglink(?pitman to tierod)I positioned the new box on the frame where it had been in the donor centrepunched the frame, drilled the front hole thru the frame & opposite the hole, I torched a tiny bit of the front crossmember web off to slide a nut thru the two rear bolt holes were unacessable from the inside of the frame, so I cut a slit in the frame, and tapped a piece of heavy plate steel with the correct thread for the steering box bolts, which I slid thru my slit, & welded in place. These two holes I cut were very small!! I used half of the new & half of the old columns, and mix & matched the tie rod components. I attached the cooler to the front crossmember-looks like it belongs! Almost impossible to tell my ps isnt stock. The only trouble I had was matching up a couple of tie rod ends. The 75 draglink didnt match the 1970 tierod. I had to turn a lot of pages at the autoparts store for those, but if anyone is interested I have the #s somewhere.
my above post was a little long, but I was noticing how many people want to convert their trucks to power steering, which I did a couple years ago without much trouble, so I posted a gereral outline. If anyone wants more detail, I will try to remember.
