rear window

i have a '78 bronco custom my rear window stopped working about two weeks ago then started working again the next day and now has quit again. when i flip the switch on the dash i can hear a very small pop. so i am pretty sure that i am getting power back there but i am not sure . i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it. i have also been told that there is a way to manually lower the window if so how?
sorr about all the questions but my chilton has been no help on the subject.

Look thru these pics and their captions and look at the wiring diagram in a Haynes manual, even if you have to use an '80-96 Haynes. The t/g window wiring was always the same. Basically, pull the inner access panel and put a test light on the 2-wire connector behind the center cross-brace, then watch it as you work the switches.

The only way to manually lower the window is to remove the motor from the regulator, which will allow the window to slide up&down until you put the motor back on.

If you can hear the motor running and the sound is more of a thump-thump-thump, I would venture to say you have worn out the rubber driving bushings in the motor assembly. I'm not sure exactly what they are called, but they are between a diving cog on the motor and a plastic gear on the regulator. I have fixed mine with gas line hose and ballbearings before. They just took up the space necessary to drive the window gear like th originals.

Hope this possibly helped you out.

If the motor doesn't run, I would suggest trying to jump it inside the tailgate. You can get to it with the window up from inside. If nothing else you can at least get the window down by disconnecting it from the regulator, tripping the window-down safety latches and open the tailgate to work on it further.

Good Luck.
