Last week went out to start plowing, after doing my driveway I had a trip on the highway of about 15 miles. On the way to the highway I lost my instrument panel. Had to get the plow route done so I continued on, thought it was maybe just a fuse. About 10 minutes into plowing every time I lifted the plow the lights would dim, radio would go off, etc. Limped it to a parking lot, put the plow down, it idled for a couple minutes before stalling.
Local mechanic said it most likely the alternator. Got an oem alternator, put it in, and the truck started but still no instrument panel, ABS light came on and fuel gauge read low (there was at least 3/4). After some searching found a blown fuse. Replaced it, no problems for a couple days. This morning it blew the same fuse, instrument panel and cigarette lighter. What do you think could be causing it?
Cliffs:
-Lost instrument panel while driving
-Later truck started to dim every time I moved plow
-Parked it and it stalled
-Replaced alternator (and blown fuse)
-Blew same fuse 3 days later
You probably drained your battery and if it wasn't the first time it's probably weak and I
would start to look at that.
If some of battery's cells are shot you might get some parasitic current to electrical circuit and that could play all kinds of tricks on you.
Check battery.
Sounds like the alt was bad or the fuse had something to do with the alt light and the alt was fine. Check when the fuse blows if its still charging or not. 14.2-14.5 volts.at the battery engine running. The fuse may be all the problem. Which one was it or is it..
