I got a 2005 F650 with a C7 Acert with 13000 miles and it seems like it loads up when you start off from a stop sign and smokes like a chimney im just doesnt seem like it runs smooth like the pre emissions motors im interested in getting rid off the emiisions stuff is this possible??
Also, as to the emissions stuff, with as tough as they are getting about emissions these days, especially the diesels, I wouldn't touch a single thing on a big truck as new as a 2005.
Why blame the emmisions first thing? Beleive it or not, they have POSITIVE BENEFITS such as improved engine performance, overall engine life and we can all breath a little easier.
It may well be NOTHING to do with the emmisions.
I would, as others have suggest take it to someone who is CERTIFIED in the CAT engines, then blame it on the emmision controls IF it has anything remotely to do with them.
its just grayish smoke like you get when you start it up but every time you stop and start again it loads up until you put your foot in it a little bit then it cleans out and runs fine till you stop and start again
I am only familiar with the CAT 3116 and the 3208 engines, or at least those are the only that I am trained on.
However, I would hazard to guess that you either have a bad injector or two, or the timing is a bit off.
One things pops up - is this a factory stock engine? Did you buy it new? If not, then someone may have been tamperiing with it, and that issue will have to be repaired first before the troubleshooting can continue.
Your best bet is a CAT certified mechanic / shop. They will hae the latest and greatest information. When I went thru CAT school on both the 3116 and 3208, I was amazed at how many fine details that I learned. Details that were paticular to each engine class.
