Thanks, hoping to get the differential put together this week and then get the engine set back in place.

Well, it's been quite a while since I last posted. Other priorities to take care of. I've finished the tank install. I need to plumb the fuel pump. I'm almost finished with the rear axle install and pinion setup.

Here's a write up on the fuel tank.

Here's the '69 Mustang 20 gal. tank.

$139 shipped to my door from ebay.

Apparently the sending unit on these isn't compatible with aftermarket gauges. A universal sending unit is needed.

A universal sending unit actually came with this truck when I bought it. I had been trying to sell it. I didn't think I would need it until I decided on this tank relocation.

Here is the VDO universal sending unit.

Here is the mustang pickup with the float removed. I slightly bent the pickup tube so it wouldn't interfere with the float on the universal unit.

I adjusted the sending unit per the instructions and marked the location for the hole. The float needs to be centered in the sump. I slightly bent the float away from the center to avoid the pickup tube.

Here's the sending unit installed. I also welded a plate to the tank (probably overkill). I threaded both holes: 1 for the rollover vent, 1 for the fuel return.

Here's the frame mod's for the tank.

Here's what I started with.

Here it is with the cross bracing out and the frame rails trimmed some for clearance.

I bolted part of the tank flange to the frame rails. I modified the front cross member brace and modified another piece of angle iron to bolt to the front and rear of the tank.

Here's the back brace.

Here's part of the front brace. I reinstalled one crossmember on top to stiffen the frame rails at the rear leaf springs.

Here it is complete with back frame crossmember installed.

Thanks, yeah it's a real nice fit for it. I was concerned about not being able to run the exhaust out the back because of it, but it looks like I have enough room between the tank and the leafsprings.

That is real nice work Greg, I have a question though. Are you using the stock pump from the mark viii? Did it bolt on? I only ask cause I am using a mark vii drive train in my truck as well and have no idea what to do for the fuel system.

Thank you
Drew

No, I'm not using the stock pump. I have an external pump. I'm gonna try and install it today. I'll try and get some pics of it soon.

I modded my stock mustang sender to have a return line fitting, and will use an Autometer gauge that supports the ford sender range.

Cool, good job. I have a complete set of VDO gauges that came with the truck, so looking at other gauges really wasn't an option for me. I thought about making a return on the stock pickup also, but didn't want the hot return fuel being pulled right back through to the engine again.

I angled the return so the fuel will circulate away from the pickup..

all the gauges on the truck were mechanical, and with the EFI engine needed replacement anyhow.. I am keeping the polished insert.
