1997 engine

I was reading the OBS engines the connecting rods are lightened with a hole in them. Are they weaker than the 2000+ rods?? are they studs or bolts?? I heard some of the 99+ have powder rods. so is it better to have lightened rods than powder rods?? i have a 97 engine i want to drop into my blown 2000 SD.

Mine have two holes in them. One big one and one small one. I didn't see any lightening holes though.

There aren't any lightening holes in OBS rods. I'm sitting here looking at mine. They are forged Iron. The new ones are the powdered metal crack prone ones.

OBS cranks are forged too. Not sure about the new ones. It's a steel forging. Heavy too.
