My 87' f150 (5.8L H.O.)has an idle issue...it starts fine but my idle is super low! So low that when I stop at a red light or stop sign I will put it in neutral to bring up the rpm's to keep it from dying! Blinkers wont work and oil guage jumps all over when RPM's are low. Please help!!!!
mine was doing that when the piston rings were goin out...check your air filter box and see if your air filter is turning black...if it is thats oil blow by and not a good sign...could be a pvc valve or bad head(s)
My air filter is getting pretty black...how would i find out if its a ring issue! I also just started noticing that Im blowing out quit a bit of black smoke when I first start it or when I rev. it up at lights or stop signs.
Is it 2 or 4 barrel?
My 351w had a ****ty Motorcraft 2150 that my dad had put on it with pencil lead sized jets, just to "get by with"-Yet I never did get the opportunity to trash it......I am not kidding, the carb says Nov-69 on it, which I am taking to be it was made in November of 1969-
IIRC it came from my neighbor that drives a 78 F-100 DAILY at about 35 mph....
I don't have any hands on with the later model carbs, I know they put plastic over the air -fuel mixture adjustment screws, but I think it should have an adjustment on the idle speed.
